In 2019 Dr Rai presented at a highly successful ‘Empowering Pastoral Excellence’ conference hosted by Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls with over 200 teachers in attendance. He chaired a session on substance abuse, presenting current statistics and trends, in addition to providing guidance for identifying signs of drug abuse in young people. Dr Rai also outlined key aspects of the consequential mental effects of substance abuse.
It was clear from the extremely positive feedback received that there is a need for resource investment in educating teachers in this area, enabling them to best support the pupils in their care, a requirement of the statutory PSHCEE curriculum from September 2020.
