1. Result Outside Reference Range
One or more of your blood test results fall outside the laboratory’s reference range. Reference ranges are based on population averages and may vary depending on factors such as age, sex, and individual health status.
Results from home testing should always be interpreted alongside your medical history, current symptoms, and any existing conditions. A result outside the reference range does not necessarily indicate a medical condition but may require further assessment.
If a result is significantly outside the expected range, or if you have any symptoms or concerns, we recommend that you arrange a review with your GP or appropriate healthcare professional. They may consider repeat testing using a venous (phlebotomy) sample or further investigations if clinically indicated.
If you feel unwell or develop new or worsening symptoms, please seek prompt medical advice via your GP, NHS 111, or emergency services where appropriate.
2. Insufficient Sample (Common in Home Finger-Prick Testing)
The laboratory has reported that the sample provided was insufficient to perform the requested test(s). This can occur with home finger-prick testing if there is not enough blood collected or if the sample flow was interrupted.
As a result, no reliable result is available for this parameter. We recommend that the test is repeated to ensure an accurate assessment.
When repeating the test, you may wish to ensure adequate hydration, warm hands prior to sampling, and follow the collection instructions carefully to optimise sample quality.
If the test was requested due to symptoms or ongoing monitoring, it is important that this is followed up promptly. Please contact us or your GP to arrange repeat testing.
If you are currently unwell or your symptoms are worsening, please seek medical advice without delay.
3. Sample Received Outside Stability / Validity Window
The laboratory has advised that the sample was received outside the required timeframe for this test. This can occasionally occur with postal home testing kits if there are delays in transit.
This means the sample may have deteriorated, and the result may not be reliable.
This result should not be used for clinical decision-making. We recommend that the test is repeated to obtain an accurate and clinically valid result.
When repeating the test, please ensure the sample is posted promptly according to the instructions provided.
If this test relates to symptoms or an existing condition, please seek medical advice if you have any concerns or if there is any delay in repeat testing.
